The other day I got in a conversation with someone about the need to every once in a while start over with a blank page. After many days on airplanes, I gave this concept some more thought and here's what I came up with. There are different applications to this.
Re: work. We all get so caught up in our day-to-day work life, we sometimes forget to take a step back and look at it from a big picture perspective. If you're constantly in the huddle then you can't play quarterback. So don't check your emails on the weekend and use your after work time to relax and clear your mind. It will make you more creative, more strategic, happier and generally more pleasant to be around. Plus, you will have more hair.
Actually rather than just not work, do things to help clear the clutter. Go on a long walk, eat at a restaurant that you've never been to, watch a play, meet a stranger or call an old friend.
Re: life. Sometime catastrophes happen in life. People die, others get sick, jobs change, you move and girlfriends break up. Rather than dwell on the past, use this as an opportunity to start with a blank page. Clear your head, put things into perspective and live life. Change is good, with every door that closes another opens and blank pages should be inspiring.
