So, I went to a back and neck specialist the other day. My kind of doctor. Actually, I am not even sure if he's an accredited doctor. More like a motivational speaker. From time to time, I get these spasms that completely stiffen my neck and make my upper vertebrae move like a solid piece of steel. Being the caring and nurturing person she is, my dear mother has been begging me to finally see a doctor about it. And so I did. And she probably wishes that I never had. I went in there fully expecting to be told that I need to cut down on my workout regime, stop boxing and participate in no-impact sports such as yoga, dance aerobics and jazzercise. Far from it. The guy was a former college athlete and told me to stop babying my neck, ignore any sort of pain and put much more focus on it when lifting weights. And he delivered his diagnosis while feverously walking around the room, swinging his arms and sporadically looking me into the eyes, asking: "Do you understand what I mean?" Anyway, I doubt that my neck is going to get any better this way. But at least I don't feel bad about it anymore. Let me know if your mother/wife ever wants you to see a back and neck doctor. This guy is great.
