Today I volunteered a few hours to meet with and review graduating advertising students' portfolios at the Portland Art Institute. Coincidentally, I had a similar engagement with a group of University of Montana marketing students on Monday. It's college days in my world.
I can honestly say that everybody's level of talent and advertising smarts far surpasses what I had learned in my four years of college. Actually, I am glad that I started without any preconceived notion of how Advertising works, as it has forced me to learn and keep my eyes open. Since day one at WONGDOODY, I have tried to look at every meeting, brief, phone call, email or proposal as an opportunity to prove that I am qualified for the job on hand.
Seeing today's crop of graduates, I don't think my attitude will change for quite some time.
