I have hinted at a big announcement in a prior blog entry. And then almost immediately Twitter was abuzz with rumors of me getting my ears re-pierced.
So now I have two major announcements.
Neither of which involve needles or earlobes.
Let me get to the point.
This summer, I am ending my career in Advertising. It has been an amazing decade. I learned so much, and I got to work with and for some of the most incredible people in the world. And I have helped sell a lot of crap that people really didn't need.
So now it's time to do something a bit more meaningful. To use all those ninja-esque marketing and influencing skills and do some serious good in this world.
A New Beginning
I am going to make IdeaMensch my career.
To kick that off (with a bang), I am going on a 48-state, four month roadtrip. In addition to seeing many parts of this awesome country, there are two objectives I am going to accomplish.
1. I want to inspire tens of thousands of people to get off their butts and start bringing to life whatever ideas might be lurking in the back of their minds. One of the greatest things about America is that just about anyone has the opportunity to take an idea and make it happen.
We are going to get thousands of people to start something. And hopefully create thousands of businesses, artists and new ventures along the way.
2. I want to show people the power of helping others. The worst thing about America is that helping others is oftentimes frowned up on. Politicians talk about us becoming an entitlement society, us indebting future generations and us going broke. It's an excuse. An excuse for greed. If we have any debts, then it's to those thousands and thousands of homeless veterans. To ourselves. To our society.
I can't change American politics.
But America is better than that. Americans are some of the most generous people in the world who when asked to help - always do.
So, I am going to encourage people to help someone. To stop making excuses about everything being someone else's fault - and to take action and help someone in need. It's what Jesus would do.
We are going to get thousands of people to help someone else. Because it's the right thing to do.
Those are the objectives.
How do we get there?
Well, I am going to drive across the lower 48, and put on IdeaMensch events in every state along the way. I am going to bring in some of the most amazing speakers in the world who will share their stories of how they've brought their ideas to life. Our audiences will be people who're just as passionate as you are about ideas - and you'll inspire each other. And at the end of every event, I'll give every single person an incredible reason to help someone in need. It will be Oprahesque.
While we're at it, I am going to bring a documentary filmmaker with me and we are going to make a movie on how to bring ideas to life.
I am going to make an official announcement in the coming weeks, but I want to give my friends a heads up. I will need all kinds of help to make this happen, and I want to see as many of you as possible on this journey.
It will be the trip of a lifetime.
Will you help?
