This post is a couple of weeks late but that’s because “eliminate procrastination” is not my 2010 year resolution.
Rather, my new years resolution for the year 2010 is to simply be more focused.
Over the past couple of years it has become more and more clear to me that while I have been mostly successful in my life, what has been lacking is a clear sense of focus.
I am constantly involved in a million different projects, talking to dozens and dozens of different people and trying to excel at 3-4 sports at once. It has been fun and given me an opportunity to learn a ton, but as my twenties are nearing their end, I want to take what I learned and apply it really well in a few different areas.
So, what does focus mean to me.
Finishing an ironman. This is going to take all kinds of focus and commitment as without such I will have no chance in hell to cross that finish line in Switzerland. I will have to work out with great regularity, rest lots and have a near perfect nutrition. Anything less, and I will fail miserably. 3.8km of swimming, 180km on the bike and a full marathon will be a great measuring stick for me.
Being a better friend. I’ll never stop making friends but I am now at the point where I need to focus a bit more on the friendships I already have. And that shouldn’t just involve me tweeting more. I look forward to spending more time with the people who mean a lot to me.
Cutting down on my projects. I love what I do. A little too much. That leads to me becoming distracted with random website, marketing and bratwurst stand ideas. While I am not willing to say that I will cut down on pursuing different ideas (never), I will be a bit more conscious of completing a few before starting new ones.
That’s it for me. Wish me good focus.
