another one bites the dust

another one bites the dust

My cousin Frank is getting married on July 23, 2004. His longtime (almost anicent) girlfriend Henrike and recent fiancee will be playing the lucky bride. It’s crazy to think that he is getting married, even though I guess it’s a fairly routine procedure at the age of 28. To me he is still the premature little boy who helped me pack my just slightly older cousin Stefan (23) into a suitcase and push him down the stairwell. I will also never forget:

  • when I first started smoking his girlfriend’s cigarettes
  • when locked him out of his own room to spend some quality time with a french exchange student
  • when he constantly bailed me out of the troubles my loud mouth had gotten me into
  • when we walked (fairly intoxicated) through knee high snow after my mum had managed to accidentally supply everyone with straight hot alcohol rather than tea
  • when Frank pheld me hostage under his desk at school and I almost had to repeat 6th grade because of it
  • when I accidentally slammed a door into Henrike’s face and she almost left the family vacation because of it
  • when he told me that he wasn’t going to get married for a long time

Gosh, time flies by. It has gotten to the point at which I almost feel like an adult. Regardless, I couldn’t be happier for good old Frank. I of course will be making the trip to Germany and everybody better be prepared for a diligently prepared speech that will entail all the details nobody has ever dared to express. So long…
