grocery racing

Going grocery shopping can be quite dangerous here in LA. Especially, if you only do it once per week and then try to transport all your groceries via bike. Who would do that? Only me. The fact that only one of my brakes works probably only magnifies the difficulties that I have been having.  Today, I was carrying my bagpack plus one paper bag filled with groceries on each side of my handlebars. Now, the fact that I still care about speed of transportation probably does not help either. I was going about 20 mph on a downward slope, when realizing that the paper bag in my right hand had disabled my breaking functionality. Merry Christmas Mario. Fastly approaching a parked semi truck, I found myself in the unfortunate situation of having to cut off an old lady walking her dog. Finally, my bike came to a halt. I was alive. So was my bike, the old lady, the puddel and the gallon of milk, pounds of yogurt and frozen strawberries. From here on out, I am going to be more careful. It’s safer to just put the gallon of milk into my bagpack in the first place. Lesson learned.

I ought to be one of the only people, who voluntarily is holding out on purchasing a car in Los Angeles. If I can live without a car in MT, then why shouldn’t it work here in Los Angeles. True, no quick trips to Disneyland for me. And all those models and actresses are probably not too impressed by my yellow bike. Let’s see how long I can hold out. Game on.
