Bus mechanics, bus drivers and grocery workers are currently striking here in California. They have been doing so for the past 2 weeks. In front of all the major grocery chains here in Southern California are picket lines. People are fighting to keep their full healthcare benefits, as their corporate governance is trying to take away from the little man once again. Anyway, I work right next to a grocery chain and I can proudly say that I will not cross the little man’s picket line. These are people who fight for their rights. People who are oftentimes less fortunate than many of us. Most of them speak little English and many have large families to take care of. And of course, large corporations are trying to bolster their profits (and yes, the profits have been growing for the past few years) on the back of the little guy. And I am not going to support the large corporations and will not shop at these grocery stores until they guarantee full healthcare benefits for their meatcutters, cashiers and lottery ticket sellers.
