the day the mario blog ran across amazon.com
My office building is right next to the Amazon.com’s headquarters. I usually have to walk by it on my way to the International District ($2 vietnamese sandwiches). I often eat lunch with guys that work at Amazon.com, as those $2 sandwiches are a hot and cheap commodity downtown Seattle. Anyway, today on my way back to the office, I saw the unbelievable. Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon.com all the sudden stood right in front of me. At the moment I wasn’t sure if it was him, so back at the office I immediately looked up a picture of him. And yes, it was him. And no, I didn’t say anything to him. Amazon.com is probably the one company that I admire the most. Heck, they basically taught me how to read. I don’t think that I ever read a book voluntarily before my first order at Amazon.com (Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “Encyclopedia of Bodybuilding”).
Anyway, I had butterflies in my stomach all afternoon. Ok, maybe butterflies isn’t the right word here. But I was stoked. Stoked to walk by the guy who taught me how to read. And how to lift weights. And how to get A’s in college. And how to find a job and how to be romantic.Granted, some of his lessons, I embodied easily. Others, I failed miserably. Fact is, Jeff Bezos is an amazing guy and I saw him today. I wish that I had something to show for it. On the other hand, it was probably a good idea that I didn’t ask him for autograph. After all, my status in this country is not exactly what I would call “secure”.
Oh, by the way. The mario blog is now one of the top 500 blogs in the world. By the end of the year, I want this to be one of the top 100 blogs in the world. So tell your friends (with the sweet tool that I configured) or subscribe yourself to this site (with the other sweet tool that I implemented). I am planning to add some more content shortly, so there is always more to come.
